The Escaped Lynx didn’t need to be killed

Debate Information

Eurasian lynx on the run from Welsh animal park for nearly two weeks is shot and killed in caravan park in Aberystwyth.

The lynx that escaped was killed due to concerns for public safety.  But did it need to be killed?
I don’t think that was warranted.  Why couldn’t they just use the darts ?
The shooter said  it was necessary to get within 10 to 15 metres of an animal to tranquilise it, with the the dart then taking up to 15 minutes to take effect: “During this time the animal will run.”  But was that really just a way of saying that it was easier to kill the animal.

There are 2 reasons I will argue for my position.
    1) Darts could’ve been used instead of real bullets
    2) there is no history of lynx attacking humans.  So concerns were exaggerated

We keep these animals as prisoners for our own profits, and then kill them if they pose even slight threat to us.
