UK is cracking down on online hate crime

Debate Information

Hate is hate. Online abusers must be dealt with harshly

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/aug/20/hate-crimes-online-abusers-prosecutors-serious-crackdown-internet-face-to-face

Whether shouted or tweeted, prejudice devastates lives. That’s why prosecutors are committed to taking internet hate crimes as seriously as face to face ones

Is it reasonable to monitor and enforce online hate crime as punishable offense? Just take a look at reddit and many online forums, I don't understand how they can possibly suggest monitoring/censoring all of that and taking legal action?
I think it is a noble cause, but not sustainable nor practical. Sounds way too Big-Brotherish to me.

@joecavalry, true, but how do you balance freedom of speech, internet privacy, and contol for online hate crime? It's a slippery slope to become like ultra-censorship like China.
