Did the Democrats woke politics cost them the election

Debate Information

Several Democrats have come forward post election to suggest that wokeness cost the Democrats the 2024 election. Others, such as MSNBC have argued that is not true the election was about economics and that Democrats should double down on wokeness.

Were working class voters turned off to defund the police, efforts to mutilate children's bodies in the name of trans rights, reparations for Black Americans, abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, campus “cancel culture,” racist diversity, equity and inclusion programs, or Democrats attack on women's sports as they defended biological men taking championships and scholarships from women.  What are your thoughts.  Why are Democrats losers?

The contemporary wisdom posits, that if you end up in a hole, stop digging.    This the Dems simply can not do.     They are so convinced that they are the voice of intellect that they can not take a backward step.   They refuse to acknowledge that former moderate Democrats abandoned ship because they could no longer stomach this woke idiocy.     The Democrats best and brightest like Joe Rogan and Elon Mus, are now on the Trump team.   President Trump has displayed his admiration for moderate Democrats by placing former moderate Democrats like Tulsi Gabbard, and Robert Kennedy junior in his cabinet.   His new government is not entirely Republican.  It can be seen as a coalition of moderate Democrats and Republicans, which is why it has such wide appeal.

I'm not following.  Are you saying that the only reason someone would not support racist policies, like DEI, which discriminate against someone based on their race, is if they are Christian?  I know atheists who oppose racism.  Are you saying that you have to be a Christian to oppose mutilating a child's body if they have gender dysphoria?  I know atheists who don't want to mutilate children.  Are you saying that only Christians support women's sports and want women's athletes to not lose championships and scholarships to biological men? I know atheists who don't hate women.  So, help me to understand, what are you trying to say?

@just_sayin When Christians and Jews quit mutilating boys penises you can talk to me about that.

So you are equating cutting off the foreskin of a penis with cutting off the complete penis?  That seems like saying that getting your ear pierced is the same as someone ripping off your ear.  It seems like a stretch of an argument to me.

    @just_sayin
Full mutilation of the penis is uncommon and is usually a final procedure, what instead happens to a transfem person is they take estrogen, which does make it smaller and less noticeable, but the worst can be reversed by stopping estrogen and maybe taking supplementary testosterone, but the vast majority of trans people do not de-transition. Children are not allowed to get rid of their genitalia at any point in gender affirming care and to even be allowed for estrogen/testosterone have to go through years of therapy and consultation to confirm that the gender dysphoria is present, nobody goes the doctor out of the blue and says, "I want gender affirming care", it takes courage to even come out to your doctor and after you do ask for gender affirming care it takes years to recieve it.

    1) Yes, gender affirming surgeries have been performed on minors.

See Vanderbilt to review gender-affirming surgeries for minors
Officials at Vanderbilt University Medical Center announced Friday that they are pausing gender-affirming surgeries for minors in order to review their practices.
The news, delivered in a letter sent to a lawmaker who has demanded an end to the surgeries, was publicly released Friday afternoon. It comes amid mounting political pressure from Tennessee’s Republican leaders — many of whom are running for reelection — who called for an investigation into the private nonprofit hospital after videos surfaced on social media last month of a doctor touting that gender-affirming procedures are “huge money makers.” Another video showed a staffer saying anyone with a religious objection should quit.
    So yes, it happens.

    2)  For most minors, they are given puberty blockers.  Puberty blockers were meant for very short usage, not long term use.  They can have several long term permanent issues such as: enlarged heart, stroke, cognitive development issues, infertility, sexual functioning may no longer work, and irregular heart beat and heart attacks.  While these only happen in a small percentage of people, some of these conditions are permanent, and it would be wrong to suggest otherwise.

@just_sayin ;  Yes, WOKENESS is repulsive to the majority of Americans...Trump's victory was directly related to America's hatred for WOKE, DEI, TRANS, Open Borders.

The question of whether "woke" politics cost the Democrats the recent election is complex and debated among analysts and party insiders. Here are key perspectives from the search results:

    1. **Wokeness as a Political Liability**: Some analysts argue that the association of the Democratic Party with "woke" politics may have alienated swing voters. This sentiment suggests that issues tied to social justice, such as defunding the police and transgender rights, caused discomfort among working-class individuals who felt estranged by these discussions. Critics within the party propose that a more socially conservative stance could help regain lost support from these voters[1][2][4].

    2. **Counterarguments on Blame**: Others contend that blaming "woke" activists oversimplifies the situation. They argue that Kamala Harris's campaign failed to resonate primarily due to a lack of focus on economic issues affecting working-class voters, rather than an overemphasis on progressive rhetoric. The Democratic Party's strategy during the campaign was largely centrist, with Biden’s administration not fully embracing the progressive agenda that some critics claim drove voters away[3][2].

    3. **Electoral Dynamics**: The election results indicate a shift in voter demographics, with Trump gaining ground among Latino and Black voters, particularly those without college degrees. This shift suggests that economic concerns may have outweighed cultural issues for many voters[7]. The narrative that wokeness directly led to electoral losses is challenged by evidence showing that Democrats previously mobilized successfully around similar issues during the 2020 elections[3][6].

    4. **Strategic Reflections**: Moving forward, some commentators advocate for Democrats to maintain their progressive values while also addressing economic frustrations more aggressively. They argue that successful engagement with both identity politics and broader economic populism could unite diverse voter bases against corporate interests and economic inequality[2][6].

In summary, while there are arguments suggesting that "woke" politics may have contributed to electoral challenges for Democrats, many analysts believe that focusing on economic issues and addressing voter concerns holistically is crucial for future success.

Jules, I got to disagree with your AI a little bit.  While I think that economics was much more the primary driver of people's votes, and Bidenflation helped elect Trump, I disagree that issues such as having biological males on women's sports teams, or mutilating children's bodies who have gender dysphoria where issues that Mobilized lots of Democrats in 2020.  I think abortion was a winning issue for Democrats, and the election ads I saw in 2024 from Democrats were almost exclusively about that issue again.  I think it is fair to say that Hispanics and Blacks as a whole are less leftist on transgender issues, and certain other social issues like school choice, and border security than the typical white elite leftist.

I think it was both economic issues and woke ideology combined.      Then there was the Lawfare used against Donald Trump by his political opponents, which  got Trump a ton of sympathy, especially since he handled the incredible pressure so well.     Next came the two assassination attempts which looked to many people as a setup.        There was Biden, Kamala, and the fake news media telling everybody that Trump was Hitler and a threat to democracy, combined with the most criminal negligence of behalf of the FBI, no friend of Trump.  Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.       Anyone who looked at any independent media could see the two tier justice system weighted for the Biden's, and always going after Trump.

The only thing that surprised me is that so many people voted for Kamala.
