Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said he was shocked, disappointed and surprised after a spokesman for the Conservative Political Action Conference said Steele was elected to the position "because he was a black guy, that was the wrong thing to do."

the question is if it’s true though - was he elected primarily because of his race or merits?  Race shouldn’t have anything to do with a person being elected and we want the best qualified people to represent our country

I don’t belive that the RNC chairman was put in his position due to his race or ethinicity. It was most likely based on him being qualified for that position and merit.
