Should sanctuary city mayors be arrested?

Debate Information

So, if your friends rob a store, and your the getaway driver, you’ll get arrested. Even though you haven’t robbed the store yourself, you are still an acessorie to that crime. So would it be possible to arrest sanctuary city mayors as an acessorie to that crime?

Yes, due to them potentially being criminals.

Maybe you should have a good look at this article @billpassedhttps://www.splcenter.org/20180308/current-state-sanctuary-law
I would assume you heard about this from the Trump administration, failing, as usual, to inform the public about "real news."
So let's review our First Amendment rights limits.
    1. Defamation~cannot say or write false statements about public and private figures(with knowledge of so) E.g. Saying a business is so and so.
    2. No "fighting word" E.g. Cursing at a police officer
    3. Invasion of privacy
    https://www.casebriefs.com/blog/law/constitutional-law/outline-constitutional-law-law/freedom-of-expression-outline-constitutional-law-law/the-limits-of-first-amendment-protection/2/
The first amendment is VERY loosely defined in the Bill of Rights.
Local and state authority are using their power stated in the first amendment to speak out against the federal government. By arresting them, you are violating the first amendment. Speaking out against the federal government is not a limit listed above.
But... of course, they can not stop the deportation of individual dwellers in that specific area or region.

Maybe you didn't bother to read the article, so here is the part that answers your question:

Sanctuary cities are NOT violating federal law.
Despite what the president and the attorney general say, cities and counties are NOT required to enforce federal immigration law in any way. The only federal law on this issue is 8 U.S.C. § 1373, and all it says is that cities and counties cannot prohibit communication with the federal government regarding a person’s citizenship or immigration status. That’s it—there is no requirement that cities or counties actually do anything.

You are helping someone evade the crime scene, which is illegal. Sanctuary city mayors aren't "helping" people evade federal power... because you can't.

    You mean, except when they do help criminals evade federal power;

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf warned residents that ICE sweep for undocumented immigrants was imminent

Yes, due to them potentially being criminals.

Everyone has the potential to be a criminal.

May I ask you what law the mayor broke? Because the OP said specifically if they should be "arrested."
