Is love a choice?

Debate Information

I believe love is a choice. I choose to love Jesus and other people. I choose to value Jesus above all others, and my neighbor as myself.

I think the choice occurs at the stage where the initial infatuation prompts you to either act on it and try to develop it into a full-scale love, or to not pursue the matter. But once love has been developed, it is just there. Again, you can choose to act on that love or not, but I do not think the chemical reactions themselves in your body are a choice.

Love is not a choice. You do not "choose" to love someone, the feeling is natural. An example: I love Mercedes Benz cars (Sports models like AMGs), now for the two options:

    1. did I CHOOSE to love Mercedes Benz?

    2. Do I naturally have intense admiration for those cars because of their looks and performance?

    Which answer is more logical?
