Should the second amendment be altered?

Debate Information

In "The Bill of Rights," the second amendment states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This means that all people in the U.S. have the right to own and use a gun. Should this be altered or not?

It should not be altered. This is because even though some people with unwonted anger could buy a gun and decide to use it against people, you need a license to own a gun. This stops almost all illegal gun users. However, there are still some people that use guns in a worsened way. In 2017, 39,773 people died from a gun (https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/08/16/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/). And so, The second amendment does not need to be altered, rather it's us who need to regulate more gun laws across the U.S.

Absolutely not. The right of the citizens to bear arms is necessary in preventing government intrusion into the personal affairs of individuals. If the US government alters the 2nd amendment, such that it takes away or provides restrictions on gun ownership then we open up ourselves to potential violence from government entities, because the government would have a monopoly on violence. A governments purpose is to protect the rights and freedoms of its citizens, and in return, the government should expect the citizens to uphold that government.

By disarming the public, a government will lose the trust of the individuals, and undermine their own promise to defend the public. As the 2nd amendment stands, there is little need to change it and thus it ought best be left how it is.
At some point in the distant past, the universe went through a phase of cosmic inflation,
Stars formed, planets coalesced, and on at least one of them life took root.
Through a long process of evolution this life
    developed into the human race.
Humans conquered fire, built complex societies and advanced technology .

All of that so we can argue about nothing.
