I am sure mainstream religions will adapt to the new knowledge (after a period of denial and conspiracy theories) and find some passages in holy books they can interpret in a way that suggests that the ancients knew about intelligent extraterrestrials. That is what they have been doing with every other piece of modern knowledge, after all!

Rest easy: religion will not be wiped out with facts any time soon.

perhaps and as well, perhaps another race may be so advanced that they actually, if a creator exists, may be in real contact and it may not be of any type that humans believe in. what of our religions then?  What is a god? someone who can create life forms?  we are already trying to do that in test tubes; if we succeed would that make us a god? what if we create an AI that is self aware? would we be gods then?  any very advanced civilization that we may encounter, may be as gods to us. Humans never actually give a decent definition of god save for that he is an all powerful creator. another race may have actually found the truth to creation, and it is possible that is  so entirely different than what either religion or science can even grasp. @MayCaesar
