Sometimes reality is cruel.
Sometimes, it is so cruel that people would rather not accept reality is the way that it actually is and would rather it be totally different.
Sometimes that desire for reality to be something different is so great that it can lead people to accept things that have no supporting evidence to be true.
Sometimes this desire is immortalized in stories and traditions, which are passed down for generations.
Sometimes these stories and traditions are mistaken for being totally false hopeful wishes and are instead assumed to be absolute literal truth.
Sometimes when reality catches up and these stories are shown to be baseless the individuals in question who want to deny reality must do everything in their power to ignore or change the reality rather than just accept it.
Personally, I believe that this is very unhealthy and can lead to a lot of sadness in life. Thus the false beliefs become like a drug which the individual becomes dependent on and they will go through withdraw should they stop using it.
Religion is psychologically harmful to people for this reason. Children who are raised with religion will grow up to be permanently disabled and underdeveloped, which some might argue is the purpose of religion anyways, a means to keep the masses ignorant and indoctrinated so that they will remain loyal. The world is now moving away from these antiquated ideas and towards greater freedom via thoughtful and open forums such as the internet. It is only a matter of time before the reality of this drug is made a thing of the past, and forgotten as the mythology that it should be.

At some point in the distant past, the universe went through a phase of cosmic inflation,
Stars formed, planets coalesced, and on at least one of them life took root.
Through a long process of evolution this life developed into the human race.
Humans conquered fire, built complex societies and advanced technology .
All of that so we can argue about nothing.
