Those who deny reality are damned to be its prey.
Across the globe there are millions of people who for various reasons want to deny science.
This doesn't just occur from those we can all agree are nuts, the "Science is the devil" or the "crystal healing energy" types, but also in politics and from ordinary people, and sometimes this has dangerous side effects.
Very recently I had a conversation on this site about taking HydroxyChloroquine as a potential remedy for Covid-19. I argued that since we do not know it's effects for sure, we can't assume that it is going to work, so doubling-down on it is not only wrong but potentially disastrous.
We now know that my suspicions were correct.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31180-6/fulltextA multi-national analysis (n=96,032) finds decreased in-hospital survival rates and increased ventricular arrhythmias when using hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine with or without macrolide treatment for COVID-19.
The TL:DR is that it resulted in a
34% increase in death rates and 137% increase in serious heart arrhythmias. The results are clear, taking a position that doesn't align with an understanding of science and science-based humanism is fatal, and should be stopped. I don't understand why we allow the whims of a dangerous and often ill-informed elite shape our laws ans our lives when there is not always correlation between what they want and what is objectively good for society and subjectively good for the masses.
At some point in the distant past, the universe went through a phase of cosmic inflation,
Stars formed, planets coalesced, and on at least one of them life took root.
Through a long process of evolution this life developed into the human race.
Humans conquered fire, built complex societies and advanced technology .
All of that so we can argue about nothing.
