Can a Catholic help me understand intercession of the saints?

Debate Information

I would like to understand the purpose of this. I read Romans and came across:
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Romans 8:34 ESV

If God himself is interceding for us, (asked in politeness and simple curiosity) whats the point of asking the saints to? Why wouldn't you just pray to Jesus? Every single time. At least my naive thought when comparing the verse with the idea. Im just looking for some understanding. Not to prove any point. I dont have a point but a question.
