Have you ever stopped to consider that you and only you occupy a space in the world; the universe for that matter, that nobody else can occupy?
And each time you move you actually occupy a different space that nobody else can?
Well, you probably don't since you are more likely occupied with enjoying life as it is without having to know how we got here or that there is some "purpose" to life. You are no doubt, educated, open-minded, Astute, and have no psychological hang-ups. Life is good for you.
Well, just spare a thought for those who are less fortunate than yourself.
There are people out there who don't enjoy the same peace of mind and a balanced view of life.
To them, life is a never-ending struggle of trying to define their identity and dealing with vacillating moods and hearing voices inside their heads.
We call these unfortunate sufferers "religiously smitten". Many of them didn't start out that way, however, owing to a series of negative events in their lives and possessing a weak and impressionable character, these folk gravitate towards the path of least resistance.
That's right, religion. That ancient, draconian, contrived code of living, founded on myths and outright lies that dictates to its followers how to think and what they must and must not do with their genitalia.
It's a bit like substance abuse really. those of a weak and impressionable disposition will gravitate to it as a form of escape from their world of turmoil in the blind hope that their problems will be solved.
In each case (drugs and religion), the initial elation soon gives way to a hopeless sense of dependance and a craving for more and more.
With drugs, the dose gets higher each time, with religion, the "pushers" will increasingly apply more pressure in the form of fear and guilt to make sure their victims are well and truly hooked.
Substance abuse and religion? Resist the temptation.
