Isn't Religion Ironic?

We know for sure that thinking atheists regard religion is wanted as much as a hole in the head.
In general, one could count atheists as disliking all religion.
But how about religious groups themselves?
We all know that each religion not only dislikes all other religions but openly incites hatred towards them. Even sub-groups, or religious denominations denounce each other. For example, Roman Catholics believe that only that theirs is the only true path to righteousness. The Jehovah's Witnesses despise all other Christian religions and look down at other followers "unworldly" or "heathens".
The irony, of course, Is that nobody hates religion more than those who are religious.
