I have often assimilated religion with drugs since their effects and characteristics are remarkably similar. Drugs are designed to be beneficial, yet substance abuse is an out-of-control situation that impacts not only the abuser but society as a whole. Similarly, with religion, there are aspects of it that are beneficial however when we have followers who are besotted with their faith, we have an analogous situation to substance abuse.
There is no doubt that strict controls and restrictions of substances (which include drugs, alcohol, and tobacco) play a key role in stemming the tide of abuse and the related anti-social issues that go together with it.
So, when it comes to religion, should we not have, say R18 restrictions for people attending Church or even for the sale or possession of religious materials?
