Are Theists Honest?

Debate Information

Here's a curly one. Of course, there are degrees of honesty as there are degrees of religiousness, but we are talking here about "in general". Is there a prevailing trend of honesty or dishonesty in religion?

This time I thought it would be useful and fair to present facts relevant to both, the theist and the atheist sides of the equation.

Honest: free of deceit; truthful and sincere.

Theist facts:
1) Religious institutions will invariably preach unproven and mythological accounts as being true thus inducing deceit in the followers.
2) Knowing that what they learn is untruthful, theists will invariably resort to untruths to justify or explain their beliefs.
3) Living in a cloud of doubt over the validity of their beliefs makes it very difficult to be sincere.

Atheist facts:
1) Atheists are not preached unproven and mythological accounts as being true thus not being prone to being deceitful.
2) Atheists are not obliged to learn untruths, therefore, they have no compulsion to justify by using more untruths.
3) Atheists are free from living in a cloud of doubt over the validity of false beliefs and are therefore at liberty to be sincere with what they say or do.
