    My take on this is when the confederates states formed, they became an enempy and an occupying force In the united states. We do not fly flags or erect monuments of hitler or stalin because they were part of our history. The confederacy was a warring enemy and we should not glorify an enemy by erecting monuments.@NegativeSeventy

    Your comparing Hitler to the confederacy? Hitler was a sick man who killed innocence. The confederacy did what they wanted. The seceded so America fought for there land back. The civil war was less about slavery and more about land rights and taxes. The Confederate States of America were a part of our history that should be celebrated in the sense that they display southern pride. These monuments show what these men fought for, there rights.

    They were traitors to the United States, period...  You live in an epic bubble of delusions...  How do you call people that idolize traitors?

    It really doesn't make any sense for us to erect/maintain confederate statues. These were not US hero's any more than George III was. Why should we idolize traitors to the United states fighting to maintain slavery which directly opposes the freedom and equality on which the US was founded?

    The argument that these people represent "our history" and "southern pride" is vacuous, because the Confederate states of America was not part of "our history" in the sense that the confederacy was not the United states of America, These are two distinct entities. The "Southern pride" assertion is equally ridiculous, because the south stood for and defended slavery as this was the primary motivation for the civil war. Why should anyone be proud of slavery unless they think that it is right? These men didn't fight for "their rights" they fought for the domination of others.

    You think that the reason for the confederate states succeeding was not primarily slavery? Maybe you should read their own declaration of causes where they mention slavery specifically: ;
    At some point in the distant past, the universe went through a phase of cosmic inflation,
    Stars formed, planets coalesced, and on at least one of them life took root.
    Through a long process of evolution this life
    developed into the human race.
    Humans conquered fire, built complex societies and advanced technology .

    All of that so we can argue about nothing.

    Just put them in a museum, I think this would be a fair compromise for those who care about history or heritage or whatever reason.

    The confederacy was an enemy of the United States. Keeping up their monuments/statues propped up outside in a public space just makes no sense to me.
    why so serious?

    @Happy_Killbot. Not gonna lie I'd be down to fight for my southern pride. Lets go man.

    Worshiping the Confederacy is about white supremacy — even the Nazis thought so - The Washington Post@JeffreyBlankenship ; white supremacy, racism, fascism, and that all equals nazism .  It sure does not equal america. . if you want to be a confederate, leave america.
