There are several important considerations regarding whether fake news should be banned:

    1. Definition and scope: There is no universally agreed upon definition of "fake news". It can encompass various types of misinformation and disinformation, from completely fabricated stories to misleading or out-of-context information. This makes it challenging to implement a blanket ban.

    2. Freedom of speech concerns: Banning fake news outright could infringe on freedom of speech and press freedoms. There are concerns about government overreach and censorship.

    3. Unintended consequences: A ban could potentially be misused to suppress legitimate journalism or dissenting views. It may be difficult to distinguish between intentional disinformation and honest mistakes or satire.

    4. Effectiveness: Simply banning fake news may not address the root causes or stop its spread. People may find ways around bans or move to less regulated platforms.

    5. Alternative approaches: Many experts advocate for addressing fake news through education, media literacy, fact-checking, and improving the quality and reach of credible journalism rather than outright bans.

    6. Technological challenges: The fast-paced nature of online information sharing makes it difficult to police fake news effectively through bans alone.

    7. Democratic implications: Fake news can undermine trust in institutions and polarize society, which are serious concerns. However, heavy-handed approaches to combating it may also pose risks to democratic discourse.

    8. Nuanced solutions: Rather than a total ban, more nuanced approaches like regulating social media algorithms, improving transparency in political advertising, and supporting quality journalism are often proposed.

In conclusion, while fake news poses real threats to society and democracy, an outright ban is generally not recommended by experts due to the complex nature of the issue and potential negative consequences. Multi-faceted approaches focusing on education, media literacy, and improving information ecosystems are often seen as more effective and less problematic solutions.

Oh looky everybody, Jules is using AI again because as a lefty, he hasn't got a brain.

Fake news" is imply outright lying (eg The Russia Collusion hoax), putting a false negative spin on everything your political opponent says or does, or deliberately omitting news which will affect the opinions of voters (eg Minority crime figures, or The Hunter Laptop information).    The primary exponent of this art is much of the mainstream media and especially the the publicly funded media.       The problem for all of this media is that the longer they engage in such unacceptable behaviour, the lower their ratings will be as more and more people turn away from the Fake News Press.  Trust in the media has never been lower in the western world, because there is little cultural diversity in the media, most of them have been infected by the woke mind virus,

The solution to the Fake News press lies with the public, and their perception that they are being lied to is growing.    The ratings of both CNN and MSNBC have hit rock bottom.    The owner of CNN tried to reform this once very respected news organisation but found that the leftist opinions are so entrenched that it was unreformable.   He tried to sell the network but nobody would buy it.    There is nothing left for CNN now except a slow slide into bankruptcy.    The good that will come of that is, that a lot of woke journalists will find themselves without a job in the real world, and unable to find a job in the successful press because journalistic standards are much higher in those organisations.

Public broadcasters are in a similar situation.       Because they never stop lying to the public and putting  left wing spin on everything, their ratings have dropped so low that the British BBC (Baathist Broadcasting Corporation) is now n real danger of collapse.     The issue of TV licenses which fund the BBC is now a hot political issue, and intelligent people look forward to the day when the publicly funded BBC is no more, and it is unable to continue being the propaganda arm of the extreme Left.    Here in my country Australia, the ABC is safe for the moment but it's ever falling ratings are also beginning to raise questions a to whether this expensive media propaganda tool of the extreme Left should also continue to be publicly funded.

Well, in that case, you must have it over him since you at least have half a brain.

But the thing is that fake news will always happen because people love to hype things up by distorting the facts or conveniently leaving out key bits of information to make it sound like something different so that they can promote their wacko views.

I remember once, and like you won't believe this, but anyway, this posted a video of some chicks outside the Twin Towers, and their speech was over-dubbed. And then, right and listen up here, he posted a video of the Twin Towers with an AI-superimposed explosion from the lower floors. I mean, talk about AI, and what the?

But the thing is that it looks like KornHoled is refusing his meds again because he's doing all this preaching crap which is a bit scarry. Something's going on in the top paddock for sure.

    Hello J:

If it's adjudged to be opinion, it's NOT banned, nor should it be.  If it's adjudged to be a lie, one can be sued over it.

The term Fake News was popularized during Trump´s presidency. Before that we called it news or biased news.
How ´bout we just ban Trump then we don´t have to worry about it.

Well, whether you like Trump the thing is that he did highlight a very valid problem.

The amount of journalistic crap floating around is appalling. We are totally flooded with biased and extreme reporting throughout the media. Anyone who uses their brain properly can sift out the quality news from the crap but it seems that fake and junk news have escalated to such levels that many people being as lazy as they are just soak up the junk news just like they soak up the junk food.

Well yeah thanks for that. Its just like when I rudimentally looked up a couple of videos about 911 and did some rudimentary research and found that they had been rudimentary AI manipulated. So in the end they were rudimentary fake news.

Argument Topic: Almost 90% of Everything You Hear On TV and Radio is Fake News. 100% of everything you hear is Filtered according to narratives.

As someone who campaigned for one of the most persecuted candidates for President in American History and one that was equally attacked on all sides, Dr. Alan Keyes, I can say for certain that the real things happening in this country that are major news and that need to be covered and discussed are not covered and not discussed.  For example, in 1996 the Republican Party had paid police officers illegally arrest Dr. Keyes just to keep him from joining the NBC Primary debates that he actually had a formal invitation to.  They did this just to keep him from exposing their corruption.  They let him in the 2000 debates but stiffled him at every turn and then refused to count his votes at the convention.  And since then, no ballots have been counted by electors at the conventions.  The Dems have done the same thing.  They refused numerous candidates, such as Ralph Nader, the right to have their votes counted at the convention.  This is a fact that has never been covered in the news and yet Americans think they have a legitimate choice for President.   Not true.  And to make matters worse, I proved in three different Presidential races that votes for Dr. Keyes and other third Party candidates were never counted by looking at the vote tallies from the Supervisor of Elections Offices around the country.  Yet, when I sent a press release titled "Thousands of Americans Denied Their Constitutional Right of Representation," only one paper out of 242 covered the story and when they covered it, it was really biased and had non facts in it.  Fast forward to 2019, my wife and I lived on our own property that we had paid for in cash in 2010 and owned free and clear.  Charlotte County Florida almost doubled my taxes in a Covid year when I was even considering and trying to get others to sue local governments for derelection of duty since they closed almost all services that we the taxpayer paid for.  But they doubled my taxes even though they provided no service that they were contractually obligated to by the taxpayers.  So they created a code violation that did not exist and threatened a lien against my property.  I went in to try to find out what was the issue and I got a million different answer and they made sport of attacking me and making me cry.  I was told that maybe if i get an engineer to sign off on my home, I could keep it.  I did that and even the engineer couldn't believe what they were doing to us.  Still, the county refused.  Bottomline, we went into debt for over $26,000 just to get off our own land and make ourselves homeless.  I wrote a news story on this and have tried sending it to Fox News, CBS, etc and no one will cover the story.  Why?  Because they don't want the real truth told about what government is doing to real people because then the politicians that control the news media would have to address it.  So they keep pushing the narratives that they can pay lip service to but never fix.  Both parties do this.  None better than the life issue.  They flip flop according to where they think the polls are.  Meanwhile millions upon millions of innocent babies continue to be butchered.

So getting to the debate question:  It is a free country and people can have an opinion.  But you are not entitled to your own facts.  Truth is truth.  As a journalist graduate, I believe that news organizations should have to report the news without bias.  That does not and has not happened now for over 70 years.  That said, I feel its the duty of the citizen to be smart enough to know where and how to inform themselves.  And factually, the only place to get unfiltered real news is to watch it live as its happening.  That can be done on CSPAN I and II and many states have the unfiltered live feeds of the house floor and of court hearings and other things.  The Florida Channel is a good example.  These are usually publicly funded channels that do not show tidbits or filtered news. They set a camera up in the halls of Congress or in the Legislatures and you can see who is doing what for yourself.  That's the only way to get real news.  Also, talking to real people in your community.   But I was banned from facebook because I simply reported the truth about the vaccines and even predicted the mandates a year before they happened.  The liberals who claim to want to make false news illegal are the very people banning the facts.  This is a tride and true tactic of communists and dictators going way back.  They want to silence debate and argument and have ignorant complicit fools under their thumb.  There's no better proof than the public schools.   These kids today are brainwashed and trained pawns for evil leftists.  So we need to protect free speech.  That being said, the little shits that paint and destroy our founders statues and want to block streets, burn businesses, and harass students at college campuses are committing a crime and they should be put in jail for the rest of their lives as domestic terrorists.  I am sick and tired of peaceful pro life protesters being sentenced to 20 years in prison for exercising their constitutional right and BLM and Hamas protestors who are paid by Russian and Chinese organizations (its true -- you can see the funding on their own websites) are allowed to destroy everything and break the law.  This is insanity and Kyle Riddenhouse is a hero!  We need more Kyle Riddenhouses and if any of those leftist commie bastards show up in my town or neighborhood, they'll get a bullet in the fuckin head.

By the way, uninformed ignorant citizens do not have a right to vote.  Our founders made it clear that "a well informed citizenry" should vote for their representatives.  So I have made it a point for 20 years to actually call the people on my ballot and to find out if they are worth voting for.  The reality is that about 80% of the people on our ballots have no business running at all.  And if Americans would simply call them, they would find that out for themselves.  And frankly, if you haven't done that and checked out their records online, then you have no damn business voting!  Period!  Dumb Godless immoral people are destroying this country.  And the answer is not to continue to sensor the few people, like me, who actually know the reality on the ground.  We need to amplify those whistleblowers, like me, who have seen and been affected by the deep state directly.   About 90% of the people talking on tv, like Al Sharpton, Bill Clinton, Obama, Hillary, and more need to be ignored and shunned by the media the way they've ignored and shunned brilliant men like Dr. Alan Keyes.  Then the media needs to apologize publicly to me and everyone who has literally lost everything for standing against the machine on both sides in order to do as George Washington demanded and that is "to raise a standard from which the wise and honest can repair" and to trust God for the results.  We are the true patriots trying to preserve the Bill of Rights, the Declaration and Constitution.  The other parties and talking heads in the media merely talk about it and use it to raise money.  Meanwhile our rights are being stolen and I'm proof and yet the media will not cover real news about real people being by government and literally being killed. So I want news to be news and to actually have to follow the standards of newsworthiness that I learned in my Media Ethics course.  I want CNN to have to show their funding sources publicly.  We all know George Soros controls them and others but the American people should be able to see that the same way we should be able to see that Soros funds many of the corrupt politicians in this country -- like Kamala Harris.
  • PatriotPulpitPatriotPulpit 25 Pts   -
I agree on most of your points except point 1.  I am have a degree in journalism and can tell you that their are standards of what is called "Newsworthiness" that determines whether something is news or not.  There are also ethical practices for reporters.  One of which is to check your quotes and facts with the source after the interview is concluded.  I always did that.  Today, reporters do not do that. They take your quotes and use them to fit the stations (controlled by national parties, corporations, etc).  I reported about the county illegally forcing my wife and I off our own land and making us homeless and in that story, the reporter missed countless facts.  He even claimed I was an ordained minister which is not true.  All because he did not check the facts with me after the interview. This is one major problem.  This reporter should have been fired, but instead he probably got a promotion for mixing my words however they wanted to fit a narrative.  The big story of Charlottesville is a perfect example.  I'm not a Trump supporter or Kamala supporter.  I hate political parties.  But the fact is that if you actually watched the live feed and read the live transcript from Trump's press conference at Charlottesville, you would see that it actually had nothing at all to do with protests or the Proud Boys at all.  Trump actually exposed John "Judas" McCain as being corrupt.  Well, of course, the media can't have that.  They love sold out corrupt politicians like John McCain, so they made up the entire story.  I read the USA today front page the next day and they literally took words and put them together in whatever order they chose to create the story that somehow Trump was supporting the Proud Boys.  Again, had nothing to do with the press conference at all.  How many Americans do you think actually took the time to watch the live press conference and read the live transcript.  Apparently not any of them because I'm the only person I've ever heard who has reported that what Trump actually said at that press conference.  Why?  Because both the right and the left have painted a narrative that John McCain is a hero and they can't be proven wrong.  But the truth is they are wrong.  John McCain, like Ted Kennedy, Mitt Romney, and countless other politicians did more damage to our country than almost anyone in history.@JulesKorngold
  • PatriotPulpitPatriotPulpit 25 Pts   -
@Bogan - I agree with your points.  News does not really exist anymore.  It is all entertainment which is about advertising.  That's why commercials for NBC, CBS, and ABC news is all from pharma companies.  That's where they get their money.  Do you think they'll ever expose the damage cell phones do to the brain or the fact that soda causes major problems including cancer.  Of course not.  That's who pays their bills. So if you want to know who is profiting, look at the commercials around the program.  I think your point was that the public and competition should regulate media.  I agree to a large extent; however, with the advent of AI, that's no longer enough.  We need to outlaw AI news, AI books, movies, art, music that is not clearly labeled as AI generated.  There needs to be standards for reporting the AI and on no occasion, should people who used AI at All be allowed to compete with people, like me, who create everything only from their brain.
