I have a female friend who for 14 years built a family with a man who is now deciding to divorce. Now in the divorce process many things have come to light. She never signed a prenuptial agreement that was notarized but is not her correct signature its missing one letter but looks the same. She has since then constantly been harassed by a man who has money and she is left caring for her 4 children with no money or spousal support. Not only that but the guy she is divorcing has stolen her mail and opened accounts in her name and emptying them out leaving her with the debt. Three of her children fear her mothers life and do not want to see dad except the oldest which who now has been displaced from her home due to the dad manipulating him to spy on her and violent with the youngest brothers. The dad mentally damaged this young teenager but the law has done nothing to this individual at all. She has filed a restraining order approved by the court which the dad disputed and was able to modify the restraining order so that he can live in the same property as the mother. The judge ordered her and the kids to remain indoors while he was in the property. The case is ongoing and my friend is deteriorating in health as I am witnessing. He is destroying her life and she has battled back but with no money in her pocket to afford the attorneys that hes got she has imo falling victim to a failed part of our legal system that needs to be patched up so cases like these dont happen.
Is anybody familiar with family law in california? What do you think can work as a change in this political area?
