The MCU is ruining their characters by making them all the same, and its most prevalent with WandaV

Debate Information

I would like to say I like the MCU, but what they are doing with their characters is terrible, and their focus on short term over long term gain is going to bite them in the .

In the first Avengers movie, Captain America was still a bit in the past and was still a soldier, Hawkeye and Black Widow were primarily spies, Bruce was a hothead, Tony was an egotistical , Thor was wrapped up in being Asgardian. The characters were different, not hugely, but each character had variation. Over time, in an attempt to gain greater marketability, the characters were becoming more and more the same. Take Hulk, the main part of his personality has been erased, he has no real rage, and is almost completely disconnected from his original or comic counterpart.

Wanda was an anomaly to that, her motivations were questionable, she was foreign with a distinct accent. She was different. With Wandavision, it could have gone in the direction where she knowingly put herself and those people in that position, knowing that they would be hurt, but valuing her own grief above their pain. It would make her not a great person, not reprehensible, but bad. Agatha Harkness could have still been introduced as a witch, but that doesn't mean that Wanda necessarily had to be a witch. Wanda's powers aren't horribly well defined, and it could have been written that she got her powers as a result of the mind stone, and that specific power was power that could be taken by Agatha. The adding of such deep and sudden lore is very strange, especially with no previous mention in the MCU, mainly coming in with 'there's witches now'. With the introduction of spells, it implies that her powers are magical, giving Wanda more undefined powers, tipping power balance, and making any villain fight terrible. Especially the fight with Agatha in the series, as hundreds of years of training is no match for chronic sad.

Ideally in my opinion, the events of episodes before 4 should continue, with people noticing what's going on as this simulation is very difficult for her to maintain so it starts to fail, with vision and Wu and then convincing her to take it down. The disgruntled people have no real recourse as the government people won't do anything as they sent in missiles and such, and would be in similar trouble to Wanda, as well as it could be made they are trying to weaponize Vision, not just strip him of his vibranium for other use, and Wanda could go against them.
