Kids need help with computer problem with computers the scool gave them need advice

I just found out that the computers that the kids that are still not in school and are on online courses were given computer pads that turn off thier ability to see what is going on in the classroom everytime they flip them over to type in a questions in for their teachers.  The child I spoke to says it makes it difficult to ask questions because she then misses what the teacher is teaching them while she asks the question.  

Now I have bought webcams for this famlies kid (there are 5) but I can not supply the whole district with them.

Is there  a cheaper fix?
