Can anyone explain to me the secret of Magic?

Time and time again I come across tv shows and live performances from entertainers who pull of magic tricks which I find pretty impressive leaving me head scratching how its done.
We all know basic magic. Heck even i can pull off a very nice magic trick using a deck of cards where I make you pick a card without me looking slide it back into the deck. After a few shuffles and pretending to not know your card I can pretty much accurately select the same card you picked while i wasnt looking. The paychology behind this trick requires the skill to slightly distract the audience minds as for them not to be given a second to freely think about whats going on because in plain sight, it would be more easier to see the trick going on. The secret in this trick is while youre not looking holding the deck of cards waiting for then to slide their selected card back into your deck. You turn the entire deck of cards face up and ask the person to put the card they picked face down into the deck. By the time you turn around ready to guess their card all you have to do is shuffle the deck around a bit looking for the only card faced up from a deck of cards faced down. and wala magic.
but this isnt what this post is about. im talking about that magic thats hard to figure out. anybody know how its done or the secret?
