Is the Bible Real?

Debate Information

I can confirm right here and now that it is.

Just recently I found a bible in a drawer of my hotel room.

Naturally, I phoned the desk to complain that not all of the rubbish had been taken out.

So I assume the desk clerk escorted you out?  What do you expect? You make a joke insulting post and people will reply in kind.   Your posts are impossible to debate to, for they have no tangibility. Did you really believe that because of your ridicule, christians would see their folly and drop their religion?  What don't you use your intelligence in other ways on this site?@Swolliw

Did you really believe that because of your ridicule, christians would see their folly and drop their religion?

Yes I do as a matter of fact. And, already my and other people's exposure of the realities of religion are causing people to leave Churches in droves.

And, to put things in perspective, I am doing no more than replying to (and exposing) the constant insults, threats, lies, intolerance, prejudices, doom and gloom that theists have been dumping on society for centuries.

Exposing the insulting nature of others can hardly be labelled as being "insulting" itself, can it.

Anyway, at least I make light of it all by introducing a bit of wit and humour.

I think the OP is quite easy to debate. If I were to put it bluntly, without embellishment, it would go something like, "Is the Bible a Piece of Rubbish"?

That would preserve the seriousness of the topic. It would be unbiased and would attract intelligent debate from both sides of the reality fence.

I have read and studied the Bible from cover to cover and inside out.

If I want knowledge on history I will go to a historian.

If I want to know about ancient geography I would go to a geologist.

If I want to hear words of wisdom I would go to a philosopher, a Buddhist monk or watch Family Guy.

Since I don't have any questions about God, I would not see anybody and wouldn't give a toss anyway.

Jesus is saying you can't choose your parents or anyone over him.

Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be My disciple.

John 12:25 Whoever loves his life will lose it, but whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

You have to want Jesus more than you want anyone or anything, even more than your own life.

well good luck in that.  you have as about as ability to change someones faith as they have to conform you to their religion. all your effort will never change their opinion; you are just simply spinning your wheels  aside from that, there is actually points of interest of actuall events of history in the bible, as well, by comparing the bible to other religions we can gain a better perspective on how and where religion actually originated. also, if it were not for religion, many things that we take for granted today, may not even exist  religion was humans first science; it does not matter if that science was wrong; it was mans first attempt to understand the world about them. we may not even have the science that we have today if not for religion. considering how old religion is as well, almost everything we know of evolved from it. the way we bury and respect our dead, to most laws, social fuctions, dancing, singing, etc.  the same religion that you belittle, has its roots traced back to the dawn of humaniity and so many things, so many ideas and social fuctions exist today simply because of religion@Swolliw

People do have the ability to help save another person or not.

Read what Paul says in Corinthians and what Peter says about a spouse helping the other spouse get saved

1 Corinthians 7:16 is about a husband saving his wife, or a wife saving her husband.

1 Peter 3:1 is about winning over---saving the husband with your behavior.

Read this scripture where in Romans Paul shows how he is trying to get his own people saved by enticing them with jealousy.

Romans 11:14 is about Paul somehow arousing envy in his own people to save some of them.

Read what Paul says in Romans about how we are dependent on people helping us get saved by their sharing the gospel message with us.

Romans 10:13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 14

Acts 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Of course, we can have something to do with others getting saved.

Oh how I love the Word of God!

I have never disputed such and have in fact stated that to you. The reason that I "belittle" the Bible is because it is by no means an authoritative work, nor is it anywhere accurate. The Bible is no different to most other works of its era when most literature was not intended to be specifically factual. It was designed to be sensationalist; it was heavily biased and mostly anecdotal. Objectively, the Bible is a great work but, no more than a book of reference.

There is not one religious book that is factual. If I want to read fiction, I will rather read the Fabulous Fury Freak Brothers which is a grown-up version of Goofy.

    https://wallpapercave.com/wp/wp3588468.jpg

Seriously though, many religious books claim to be factual all right, but, what do they mean by "factual"? The fact that it was written? The fact that it contains words? The fact that there is a place called Jerusalem? Have you seen a book that has emboldened in red on the cover, the words, "This book contains facts that prove the existence of God and if any reader finds the facts are false such a reader is entitled to claim one million dollars from the publisher".

If you wouldn't mind sending me the link, I shall purchase said book and read it straight away.

the point you dodged was you only put down western religion while ignoring budda, muslims, the eygptians, or even american indians

You no doubt dodged the numerous posts and topics I have made.

For example, "Is Christianity Better Than Islam" and "What is Round and Hates Muslims?.....the World."

And what about the hilarious skit about the kid who comes home from school to tell his Mum that the Christian kids at school reckoned that the new Muslim student had a bomb in his backpack. So, after school, the Christian kids cornered the Muslim kid and threw it in the river. So, (and this is where it gets real funny) the Mum says, "What!!! they threw the poor kid's new backpack with his laptop and books into the river? And the kid says (wait for it), "No, just the bomb".

Aw, and what about the time when I took a stab at them all. The kid comes home again covered in bruises and dirt and told his Mum that he got caught in the crossfire when the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish kids were having dirt fights again. So, mum says, "Yes, bleeding typical; those religious factions have been at each other's throats since time immemorial trying to prove who has the best imaginary friend. Where did this happen?" Then the kid says, "Aw it was in that vacant lot around the corner". Then, here comes the punchline; mum says, "Oh yes, that's where the old Synagogue got burned down. I believe the developers are going to build an industrial gas oven factory there." Now that one was a bit on the nose but, what the heck anyway.

I also recall the one about the Muslim kid who said to the other kid at school, "After school we are going to take our cousin, Mahmood to the airport" Then the other kid said, "Oh wow, where's he going?" And the Muslim kid replies, "All over the place".

You've just got to have a good laugh at religion.

That's okay, but see what you're missing out on?

If only people would regard my over-the-top sarcasm and dark humor for what it is, we could have some really good, heated arguments over the particular issues raised in the skits instead of being like old tarts bit-ching away over the back fence. For example, with the first skit we could discuss the Middle East Conflict and how religion is involved. With the second skit we could discuss the Middle East Conflict and how religion is involved. With the third skit we could discuss the Middle East Conflict and how religion is involved. And with the fourth skit we could discuss, errrr, um, the Middle East Conflict and how religion is involved.

Geeziz, it gets a bit repetitive, doesn't it? I will have to pay more attention to not saying the same thing over and over, even if they are in different ways.

How could people live for 500 years, as in the time of Noah? There is completely no archaeological evidence for that. Furthermore, the great flood would have caused a worldwide layer of sludge and fossilized remains. We see none of the sort. It is also impossible for 2 people, without help, to find and capture and keep alive 2 animals of each species. HOw will they not each other? And let's not forget that it would be nearly impossible to build a ship that big, even now.

That's just one example. Ask for more if u want

How could people live for 500 years, as in the time of Noah?

There is a completely scientifically accurate way to explain that, unfortunately I forgot. @TreeMan

thus far, you have not provided a single point in this debate. YOu have simply stated what you believe, without any evidence to back it up. Get some basic knowledge, and actually make a point or two, damn it!
    @MrDebatePerson2

I have given you evidence for the Bibles authenticity in other debates, but you guys simply dismiss it, And this debate is about whether the Bible is real or not, not whether it is authentic or not. So stop your cussing and move on kid. @TreeMan

The scientific and accurate way to explain is the psychiatric condition known as delusion. There are people who believe the gratuitous crap contained in the Bible. Another symptom of delusion is forgetfulness.
