As we all (should) know, nowadays, the pseudoscientific practice of trying to change an individual's sexual orientation from homosexual or bisexual to heterosexual using psychological, physical, or spiritual interventions is considered to be very wrong. The acceptance of gender variation is now a part of mainstream, decent, civilized society.
But, what about those who still have their mindsets stuck in the dark ages and refuse to accept gays for what they are; decent, caring members of society who are no different to anybody else?
Now, I am not, and never have been a vindictive person but for the sake of argument, what say we bring back conversion therapy but, in this instance, to try and convert homophobes into normal people...a bit of "getting a dose of their own medicine", so to speak?
How would we implement such therapy?
Could a conversion session include a homophobic patient being strapped into a chair, eyelids propped open with matchsticks, and made to watch gay porn movies, you know, a la Stanley Kubrick's movie, A Clockwork Orange?
Then, for practical lessons, why not include a field trip to a gay bar so that a patient can get a first-hand experience of how cool it is to be gay? Isn't that what a phobia is all about?...... fear of what one doesn't (want to) know? And, even accepted conventional therapy specialists advocate facing one's fears head on...so to speak. Although, if you happen to live in Orlando Fla, it may be wise to steer clear of the Pulse nightclub. They elevated "shooting up" to a completely new level there, didn't they?
Anyway, what do you think is the appropriate way to "convert" homophobes?
