What are "controversial topics"?

Debate Information

As I was looking at the news, I found this article from Newsweek, and it was talking about how teachers are fearing being fired for teaching "controversial topics". A person actually made a good point, because the laws of states can ban topics that "make students uncomfortable", so they can theoretically ban sex ed, teaching slavery, and teaching about the Holocaust, because a person might feel uncomfortable because of it. So, what would be "controversial topics" anyway?

  • Awesome debate topic.

In fact, I might read that again later xd. In this book, you will find topics such as if the devil is more evil than God, homophobics being secretly gay, and much, much more.

Caution! Not for the faint-hearted. Some stuff here may make you feel angry, offended, and uncomfortable.

Good topic. Members sometimes ask me why some of my topics are controversial and why most are posted in the Religion forum.
My answer is that it is because religion is always controversial by its very nature and controversy always makes for good debating.
I found out early on that if you post a topic such as "Are the Constructs of Society Applicable", most respondents will fall asleep before they even click the button or, more likely move onto the next topic.

The same goes with any sort of news feed; two years ago you wouldn't see a headline such as "Person Catches Virus". No, journalists will hype it up and write, "We are on the verge of a deadly pandemic." And, hey presto, the controversial headline would have turned out to be on the mark and in any case, it served its attention by capturing the readers' attention and imagination.
But, as I have found, it doesn't matter how you dumb-down the wording of a topic, religion and race will always polarize people and will always be controversial.
