I noticed at our local pharmacy that there now isles full of pills, all them purporting to offer some sort of health benefit for a specific malady, for example, there are pills for sleeplessness, arthritis, low blood pressure, high blood pressure, healthy skin (whatever that is), anxiety, p.m.t....you name it, there are about a hundred different varieties of "natural" remedies for every known medical complaint.
As we all (should) know, none of these miracle remedies does a single thing towards doing what they purport to do and are really nothing more than placebos. In fact, given the current uptake of impressionable consumers gulping down these pills at a horrendous rate, they are actually causing damage in the form of organ damage, severe illness and even death.
Regulation of sugar-coated herbal nothingness pills is helping. For example, in Australia, the Pharmacists Guild has ordered the removal of all naturopathic products from pharmacy shelves.
But, what can we, as a responsible, civilized society do to further stop the proliferation of such archaic and ineffective witches cures?
