Many, many Christians are praying for revival. The gifts in Ephesians 4:11 are Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. In the modern Protestant church, it's undeniable that
#4 on the list, Pastors have almost all the power and control almost all the money in the 'holy, universal and apostolic church'.
Many Christians don't recognize any Apostles or Prophets. Some Pentecostals do, but most general Protestants don't. But Pentecostals and main line Christians are both praying for Revival. Society is a mess and now, more than ever, we need the healing and transforming message of the Gospel.
The three gifts that are still universally recognized are Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. Here's my main question: Why aren't Evangelists in charge? I believe there's lots of Evangelists out there who are being throttled by sitting in Churches dominated by Pastors. Pastors want to nurture and mature their flock, primarily thru Bible reading, Fellowship and Prayer. But this is not the message for revival. My vision for the Church is a Church where Evangelists give Pastors their marching orders. Not, like it is now, the other way around. Evangelists need to be free to Evangelize. And then Pastors and churches need to be there to support the new believers the Evangelists are bringing in.
I don't believe this can happen in a Church where Pastors control all the power and money. I believe, somehow, the church needs to be shaken up for revival to happen. What am I missing?
