Should age restrictions be abolished when the truth us that age doesn't define maturity at all?

Debate Information

I really don't think age defines maturity at all. I really don't. I think maturity is an entirely subjective concept, and I don't think a person needs a fully developed brain to be mentally capable of adult responsibilities either.

  • @theinfectedmaster People's knowledge of the world vary at different times, so that's why I think this.

Age may not definitely define mental maturity, but it is the only widely accepted yardstick which can give a reasonable degree of accuracy.      What do you propose to replace it with, ma-a-a-a-ate?      I don't know what the real purpose of this topic is, but I presume it is a Trojan Horse of the loony left to allow 8 year olds who have been brainwashed by their loony left teachers, to vote.
  • @Bogan We could use a brain scan to measure a person's IQ. The only time I really think that age defines maturity is when you're a newborn.

age may not define maturity, but age contributes to lack of maturity. @theinfectedmaster
  • @maxx This is an unpopular opinion, but I think age restrictions for pretty much anything is because the knowledge gained and the experiences people have are different for everyone. People don't need to live longer to have more life experiences.

You are advocating for policy changes based on nothing but "I think"-s. Does that sound mature to you? How about every time someone thinks something, public policy is changed accordingly?

I am all for complete abolishment of any age restrictions due to their arbitrariness - but your argument in favor of it is not a sound one.
