Why is Jesus racist

Debate Information

Because Jesus really had to because that’s the way people thought in those days Every one hated every body else and if Jesus didn’t say he hated the Israelites and the Anonites then his own people would do him in .

    Argument Topic: Jesus doesn't seem racist to me

    First, Jesus was an Israelite himself.  It would be rather odd to think that he was racist against himself.  Jesus did have conflict with Pharisees and Sadducees, who were religious groups within Judaism.  His disagreements with them deal more with their religious views and treatment of people rather than their race, which was the same as his.  Secondly, I don't know who the Anonites are.  There were Ammonites, Amorites, Amalekites, Abiezrites, Arameans, and Assyrians mentioned in the Old Testament.  However, Jesus doesn't seem to say anything racist about them.  In fact Jesus' life and teaching shows a perspective of compassion of other groups.  According to the Bible, Jesus lived in Egypt for a few years, having gone there shortly after his birth.  Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman and the story of the good Samaritan suggest that Jesus was aware of prejudices of his day for different people groups, even sub-groups within Israel, yet spent time in a Samaritan village and made a Samaritan the virtuous person in his parable rather than the priest or Levite.

    because racism is inherent in all humans.

    That's quite right, as are many prejudices inherent in all humans. What we need to be wary of is the degree to which prejudices manifest themselves in each person and how they are massaged by others in order to spread hatred about those who don't confirm to a given set of ideals.

    Argument Topic: Regardless, the religion is based on him

    @maxx
    The teachings of Christianity are based on Jesus' teachings. The apostles spread those teachings after Jesus rised from the dead and went to heaven.
