Reddit Political Discussion - /r/PoliticalDiscussion - is it Anti-Trump?

Debate Information

Reddit Political Discussion

/r PoliticalDiscussion is a popular political reddit with over 130,000 subscribers.  It is supposed to be unbiased, but is it anti-Trump?

I found at times posts from Reddit Political Discussion that are biased against Trump administration and are upvoted, taking the top spots on /r PoliticalDiscussion.

That is a trend that is generally consistent with the rest of Reddit Politics, and why Reddit had to heavily protect The_Donald reddit in extremely moderated gated community that reminds me of Soviet or North Korea propaganda machine.

In fact, below are some related debates about Political Reddit subs

The_Donald, too censored or not enough?

I am still struggling to rationalize why so many Reddit subscribers are anti-Trump, while he had good support to get elected and while public opinion polls are arguably "mixed", Trump continues to enjoy strong support among many of his supporters or atleast "tolerators".

So is there some Reddit manipulation going on to influence public opinion?

I actually didn't find that Reddit Political Discussion specifically is heavily anti-Trump. If you look at Politicaldiscussion  top posts, many are unrelated to Trump, or fairly neutral.

Trump was mostly supported by apolitical people, or people not very well informed about the world, who were not experienced enough to discern a cheap populist in him. Political groups on reddit, however, consist mostly of people quite capable of conducting a decent political analysis, so obviously Trump support there cannot be high. It is not a bias, it is a natural state of things.

You cannot accuse a mathematician of being biased against people who believe that 2+2=5; the mathematician is very objective when he/she says that 2+2=5 is incorrect. Similarly, people who consider Trump to be a terrible president are not (well, not all of them, at least) biased against him, they simply see him for who he is.

It takes listening to just one of his speeches to understand that this guy does not know what he is talking about 99% of the time.

@agsr if you're looking at Reddit to be unbiased you're a fool. Overall Reddit is leaning to the left as long as you're outside the right biased subreddits. Check the demographics of Reddit against the demographics of both parties, or at least trump supporters vs anti trumps. I left Reddit because it's a massive echo chamber for both sides, just with more options for the left than the right. If you want any sort of genuine political discussion social media is a terrible place to look.

Bots and propaganda accounts run rampant on Reddit. This isn't just exclusive to the two parties in America but foreign governments abuse this as well because the idea is every upvote is a real persons genuine opinion but that's not the case. Even something as inconsequential as video games has bits and teams of people being paid to post floods of good things about video games and downvote anything negative about the game.

Don't look towards Reddit for an accurate representation of real Americans views. Whether it agrees with you, or goes against you, the perception is most likely manipulated and inaccurate.

And let's be real. This website has a bias to it, most likely one of class or education. We all have the time and education to worry about the things we debate. We can come back regularly to make our posts. We have a constant internet connection to do that. We aren't pure representatives of the views we put out. We enjoy a certain type of life that allowed us the time to find this site and regularly post on it, with an education to back us up. Bias is everywhere. Some places more than others. All you can do is try to be aware of the bias in the places you go.

Political discourse on Reddit comprises of checking someone's post history and just using an ad hominem after that.
