Musk has a wrong view of the AI future.

@Max_Air29, if we continue to see level of exponential progress then I don't see much of any other scenario how that type of AI technology would evolve without getting into wrong hands.

Musk repeats the same mistake people have made thousands times over the history of mankind: believe that the new unexplored technology will bring about untold destruction, as opposed to technological progress. This narrative goes back to very ancient times, when very primitive vehicles (chariots) were designed and some claimed that those chariots would make people lazy and destroy civilization. What this narrative fails to realize is that humans are very adaptable and will always find a way to make the technology serve them, as opposed to serving the technology. Go to any major city in a developed country, look around and ask: has the technology destroyed humanity in us, or has it instead brought about unbelievable quality of life and opportunities?

Is it possible that artificial intelligence will destroy humanity? Absolutely. At the same time, it is clear that, whatever the outcome, artificial intelligence has to be developed; it is the most natural way for us to evolve as a species. Creating a functional AI and eventually merging with it is our future, and whether it will make us into robots, or humans with enhanced capabilities, is not very important.

Musk is good at what he does, but he is not exactly a mastermind when it comes to matters outside his areas of expertise. The fears he is propagating are mostly based on science fiction books and movies about AI overtaking the world, and have little basis in reality as far as we know.

Zuckerberg is looking forward and pushes humanity there. Musk is looking backwards, and while he still pushes humanity forward, I would not trust his general world view.
