New mysterious metal towers and more. What is going on??

Debate Information

New Yorkers! Get ready to be tracked 24/7 with the help of these mysterious metal towers.

"But even people on the MTA board in charge of the towers can’t say why they’re being used or what’s in them, CBS2’s Dave Carlin reports.

Jose Lugo said the tall metal towers quickly appeared up after the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel tolls booths came down.

“We don’t really know what’s the purpose of this,” he told Carlin.

It’s a $100 million MTA project shrouded in secrecy, with 18 of them for tunnels and bridges. So what are they exactly?

The MTA’s man in charge of the bridges and tunnels, Cedrick Fulton, dodged Carlin’s questions Wednesday.

“I said no comment,” he said....

CBS2 demanded answers from MTA Chairman Joe Lhota.

Carlin: “Some of your own board members say they don’t know the specifics.”

Lhota: “The base of these new pieces that are going up include whatever fiber optics are necessary for those Homeland Security items.”"

So we see now that the DHS is related to this. The same alphabet soup organization that is working with FEMA to bring us FEMA camps in the near future.

Could that one day include facial recognition? We don’t know and Lhota won’t say.

“I’m not at liberty to discuss that,” he told Carlin."

Another of Cuono's projects: "Harbor Lights", while stating that the main purpose is for art deco and extravagant lighting, also states that they are "To Combat Emerging Security Threats, Surge in Security Personnel to Take Effect at All Crossings, Plus Installation of State-of-the-Art Cameras and Sensors to Detect Toll Evaders, Scofflaws or Suspects"

https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-announces-transformational-plan-reimagine-new-york-s-bridges-and-tunnels-21st

At each crossing, and at structurally sensitive points on bridges and tunnels, advanced cameras and sensors will be installed to read license plates and test emerging facial recognition software and equipment. These technologies will be applied across airports and transit hubs – including the Penn-Farley Complex – to ultimately develop one system-wide plan.”

This is all unchecked and unapproved.

"According to public documents the MTA board has never seen a full project budget for Harbor Lights and has not voted on the project. According to Politico, the governor’s office says the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will pay for the project — not the MTA. Yet, according to board minutes from March and January of this year, the NYPA board was told that the MTA would repay NYPA for the costs of the project. (See below.) In other words, NYPA’s board assented to paying for Harbor Lights based on the false promise of repayment. (We say “assented” because it is not completely clear that NYPA’s board actually voted for the expenditure, though they were briefed on it.) Additionally, the NYPA board was told Harbor Lights are a “lighting project to relight the bridges that the MTA controls in New York City” and “improvements to bridges and tunnels… ” involving the “addition of energy efficient LED lighting.”"

An alarming complaint has been filed with the ABO:

Based on MTA documents, we estimate the total combined cost of the components of NY Crossing will exceed over a billion dollars in public funds.

According to press accounts, public records, and public statements by MTA board members, Governor Cuomo proposed the New York Crossings Initiative with little or no review or comment by the MTA board. Based on our review of the minutes of the MTA full board and committee meetings since the governor’s October 5, 2016 announcement, we see no evidence that the MTA board reviewed or approved an overall budget for the New York Crossings initiative, or reviewed or approved budgets, or expenditure caps, for any of its component elements.

A more cooperative spokesperson for the MTA said this:

With old-school toll booths being removed from the tunnels, Tarek said the towers "host cameras, traffic monitoring and other equipment related to homeland security that would otherwise have been hosted by the former toll booth structures."

Why would they be spending $1B in taxpayer money and not really giving us a reason why? They want to spy on us.

So don't own a phone, or don't carry a device on you at all times, or go out and live in the woods and be self sufficient if you believe you are being tracked and don't like it. No one is forcing you into a position where you have to be tracked, you want your precious iPhone, and Facebook, but you don't want to take the time to learn what happens with your data or how to protect yourself. It's not magic it's computers, you can learn how they work and how to maintain your privacy. Might I suggest looking into a VPN and Tor browser to start as already every website you visit and your internet provider are tracking what you do and selling that information to people you don't know. Don't complain for someone else to protect you, take some responsibility for your own protection. The Patriot act should have been enough for you to realise the government can track you since 9/11, then we had Snowden reiterate that. But these metal towers are worrying you?? Take the time to learn how to maintain your privacy. If people can buy illegal drugs online from another country and have it shipped to their front door without the government knowing it's pretty simple to keep the porn you watch or your location data private. You can buy a bag to put your phone in and it's physically impossible to get data to it or from in while in that bag, look up Faraday cage and since it doesn't seem like you like to do your research, take the time to read up and get a good one. Problem solved.
