Natural resource disputes have always been a tricky matter legally. The general rule when it comes to building in the wilderness is the homestead principle: "If you built up a settlement there, then it is your land". So, based on this, I say, "Let them mine". Just because people want to preserve this beautiful piece of land, does not give them a legal right to intervene in private businesses' economical activities in order to do so.

On the other hand, arguably, Boundary Waters should be considered a national park, given its unique environment, and protected from being mined for resources.

I do not know where I stand here. Whichever way the system of justice rules it out is fine by me.
