The original Religious Trolls?

Debate Information

An historical moment to ponder over.

When the same Priests who wanted Jesus to entertain their questions, didn't get the Priest like responses that they were looking for, or demanding, they Religiously persecuted his efforts by Crucifying him.

So that would make those same (Crucifying Priests,) the original Trolls of Religion?

Jesus, was Religiously persecuted by Religious Priests, who were I guess, supposed to be Religious oriented themselves?

Can any of the Atheists, or the Religious individuals, explain this precedent setting Religious Trolling moment?

"WHO CRUCIFIED THE LORD JESUS?

Luke 23:33-38"

"I. THE HIGH PRIESTS PARTICIPATED IN THE CRUCIFIXION.           Annas as was the retired high priest when Jesus stood before him. The actual high priest was Caiaphas Annas's son-in-law. The priesthood was almost totally corrupted, Annas was the power and ruled through his fives sons.           They had brought the position from the Romans. They were feared and hated by the Jews. They had around them a secret police force of common thugs, who spied on the people and no one dared even whisper a word against them for fear of prison.           The chief source of their wealth seems to have been the sale of requisites for the temple sacrifices, such as sheep, doves, wine and oil, which they carried on in the four famous "booths of the sons of Annas" on the Mount of Olives, with a branch within the precincts of the temple itself. During the great feasts, they were able to extort high monopoly prices for theft goods. Hence, our Lord's strong denunciation of those who made the house of prayer "a den of robbers" (ISBE)           Such was the high priest Jesus was brought before. He had driven the sellers and money changers out of the temple a short time earlier. He openly called the temple a den of thieves.           This plus his called to righteous and repentance from sin, was sufficient reason to wish Jesus dead.           Jesus was tried first before Annas' at night which was illegal. He was not the High Priest and it was illegal to hold a trial at night in secret. The He was taken to Caiaphas' house at 3:30AM , who was the son-in-law of Annas. Again at night and illegal under Jewish law. Jesus was then taken at 6:00AM before the members of the Sanhedrin. They had no formal charge against Him so they charged Him with treason against Rome.!?!?! Jews defending Rome?! He was then tried before Pilate, then Herod and then finally before Pilate again. He was never convicted of anything...yet sentenced to death. "

Jesus was not actually executed for religious reasons. The exact reasons are somewhat hard to reconstruct from the data we have, but it seems to have had to do with the political situation in the region. Judea was a very volatile region full of separatists, and in order to keep it as a part of Rome, the emperor had to institute a harsh police dictatorship in the region. However, the notion of individual freedoms was still alive and well in Rome, as the republic fell merely a few decades ago, and free speech was not significantly infringed upon.

Jesus said things that were fairly popular among a certain subgroup of the Judean population: he said that nobody should be subordinate to the occupants, and, or, in fact, any government whatsoever, since the only authority there is is god. Jesus said that everyone should take responsibility for their own actions and never punish anyone else for their transgressions. This was a rhetoric that Romans saw as likely to lead to an open rebellion, given the situation in the region, and so they found an excuse to execute him, which happened to be a religious one.

A lot of dissidents in Judea were executed in a spectacular manner for the same reason. However, the Jesus' account is the one that made the biggest impact, likely because of how novel his teachings were at the time when everyone talked about collective responsibility, failing to appeal to people's individual interest. Romans saw getting rid of him as both an open demonstration of power, and also as a way to defeat the increasingly popular ideology.
They failed, as Jesus became a martyr, significantly contributing to the popularity of Christianity. Ironically, ultimately the Roman Empire had to accept Christianity as the official religion. Jesus' execution was the beginning of the unusual suicide of the empire, as the ideology its culture was incompatible with slowly took over and destroyed the basic values in the society. By the time Constantine acknowledged Christianity as the only just religion, the empire was already dead, and it was just a matter of its corpse rotting to the point where scavengers could easily move in and pick it apart. Which they did.

I think two events are most responsible for the fall of the Western civilisation in the middle of the first millennium, and the subsequent darkness that lasted for over 1,200 years, bringing untold amounts of suffering to the world. The first one is Caesar's refusal to give up his dictatorial powers, and the second one is surrender of Rome to Christianity. The first one murdered democracy, and the second one murdered Western society. It was not until the 18th century that the West woke up and returned to its original values of individual freedom and responsibility.
So, in a sense, Caesar and Jesus were the biggest villains in the history of human civilisation, despite both having fairly noble intentions. But then, history can be viewed as tragedy of noble intentions leading to horrible consequences overall, and in this context these two guys are merely the perfect illustration of the general trend.

The Religious Priests, who had Jesus Crucified, are the original Religious Trolls, before the Internet, or the word Troll, ever came into existence.

    That's if the stories that were written several decades after Jesus's supposed death were true. The Jews share a completely different view of Jesus Christ and God. And who the messiah was supposed to be. The Jews view Jesus Christ as an ordinary human that just happened to be the King of the Jews at the time. Some of these Jews do see Jesus Christ as a charismatic and virtuous leader though; other Jews see him as a political rebel. @TKDB ;

Those Priests made a name for themselves, via they having Jesus Crucified.

And my argument is that makes them the original Religious Trolls, of Jesus.

I understand your point, but you're entitled to view your shared stories, as you wish.

"That's if the stories that were written several decades after Jesus's supposed death were true. The Jews share a completely different view of Jesus Christ and God. And who the messiah was supposed to be."

"The Jews view Jesus Christ as an ordinary human that just happened to be the King of the Jews at the time. Some of these Jews do see Jesus Christ as a charismatic and virtuous leader though; other Jews see him as a political rebel."

So do you have a counter argument, as to those same Religious Priests, not being the original Religious Trolls, who trolled on Jesus, via the Crucifixion of him?
