    In my opinion, doctors.

Doctors refer to when humans heal humans, and Mechanics refer to when humans fix non-organisms. Fixing any other organisms other than humans will be considered a vet.

Now, Doctors are used with the same species. You don't call animals with healing abilities vets.

Conclusion1: Because Robots fixing other robots are fixing their own species, they should be considered doctors. I know that robots are different from each other, but since robots with other robots are the same type of sentient things, they are doctors.

Unless the robots are human-controlled, then the robot then is a tool, and the human is a mechanic. However, robots here usually refer to sentient AI's pragmatically, which would mean they are machine doctors.

Also, human mechanics are machine doctors. This would likely negate every single argument made by the opposing side if there even is any.

    They are called robots...

At some point in the distant past, the universe went through a phase of cosmic inflation,
Stars formed, planets coalesced, and on at least one of them life took root.
Through a long process of evolution this life
    developed into the human race.
Humans conquered fire, built complex societies and advanced technology .

All of that so we can argue about nothing.

I would like for Happy_Killbot to present his argument regarding whether such robots are mechanics or doctors when they are dealing with fixing other robots.

    @AndyChen

Here is a little thought for you.

Is there anything which forces this dichotomy?

I mean, this is obviously one of those silly Tic-Tok memes so maybe it isn't worth overthinking here, but why should we assume that the answer must be binary?

Consider this: suppose we make up a new term, say, describe them as Automated Technicians (Autechs for short), a word I made up right now, we now have a brand new term that perfectly captures what is being described here, a machine that repairs or maintains other machines without human input.

So there you have it. Is a robot that fixes other robots a doctor or a mechanic? Neither. It is an Autech.

Well, I'm not a robot but I "fixed" machines, even robotic ones, all my life. I considered myself a DMD. (Doctor of Mechanical Difficulties ;-)
