As a leftist or centrist (idk im somewhere in between but I do primary watch leftist content, I am most in line with an American Progressive), I think our policies and arguments are sound but one thing I have seen from leftist circles and youtuber fanbases such as those of secular talk, contrapoints, philosophy tube, sam seder, shaun is that we can be too negative sometimes. We always talk about how the system is broken and corruption has overrun the 2 party system and while all that is entirely true, I think that sometimes when we focus on negative rhetoric a great deal it makes the movement unattractive to outsiders. Meaning it makes us look like people who critique the system, but that our cynicism and negative towards the system becomes our whole identity. Of course this is not true, but from an outsider's perspective I can see why they would feel this way. To be honest I think that this a larger problem within American political discourse. When Ben Shapiro got embarrassed on bbc, it was funny but it also exposed our largest fault. American political discourse has become too focused on making our opposition look like idiots and relying on catchy titles like "Shapiro DESTROYS BLM" or "Sam seder OWNS CONSERVATIVE" for quick view that that becomes all that our communities know how to do; trap and humiliate your enemy. This isn't a problem exclusive to the left, but I do think if we work on it, and take an approach more focused on civil debate and acceptance, we can better our chances of growing our community. Any thoughts?
