Elon Musk's company Neurolink is developing the technology for Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) that could be installed under the skin to replace a piece of the skull in under an hour using highly precise advanced robot surgeons. These devices will eventually be able to help paraplegics to walk and communicate, cure anxiety, autism, and brain damage as well as countless neurodegenerative diseases. Eventually they will be able to connect to you phone or a computer in order to act as a controller allowing you to type just by thinking, and probably even send messages to people faster than you can talk. All of this is very exciting and will almost definitely revolutionize our world even more than cell phones and computers have, by increasing the bandwidth between mind and machine.
Perhaps we are putting the cart before the horse here. Should we all get brain computer implants? Or is this a step to far in the name of progress?
At some point in the distant past, the universe went through a phase of cosmic inflation,
Stars formed, planets coalesced, and on at least one of them life took root.
Through a long process of evolution this life developed into the human race.
Humans conquered fire, built complex societies and advanced technology .
All of that so we can argue about nothing.
