Is Belief Enough?

Given that there is not one shred of evidence to prove the existence of any God, theists have only "belief" to justify their commitment to doctrine and lifestyle that is not only radical but hovering on the fringes of social acceptance.
For example, homophobia, child abuse and denying of contraception or abortion are getting into the area of criminal behaviour apart from being generally regarded as unsavoury by the community at large.
I remember the days when huge property deals were made on a "handshake". Nowadays, if you offered to purchase a property in such a way, you would be told where to go...."Sign a contract and pay a $30k deposit or sod off mate".
Times change and we are in an age of information where superstitions, hearsay and blind faith are things that belong to the primitive past.
So why do people still want to sacrifice their credibility on a completely unfounded blind belief just because someone talked them into it?
