Q: What is the Bible?
A: The Bible is a collection of scripts that were collected over a period of some thirteen hundred years, The oldest being about twenty-five hundred years old. There were approximately 40 unknown authors. The scripts were found some three hundred years later in a cave, Supposedly stored there by a doomsday cult.
Q: We hear constantly that the Bible is a collection of historical events, myths, and anecdotes. How do we know which is which?
A: We don't. The Bible certainly does not have any footnotes as to what is true, anecdotal or otherwise. We do know that it certainly was the style in those days to create exaggerated myths and fables to explain concepts.
To this day, none of the events as portrayed in the Bible has ever been verified or authenticated.
Q: What do we know is not true in the Bible?
A: Unfortunately for its proponents, the Bible's entire credibility is shot to ribbons right from the very start: "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth". Overwhelming and irrefutable evidence proves conclusively that this is not the case.
Q: Our Pastor says that the Bible is true and has been authenticated. Is he lying?
A: He isn't lying at all. However, if one were to analyse exactly what your Pastor said, his words are hollow and devoid of specific meaning. Yes, the Bible is true since it exists and there are many copies in circulation. It has been verified as taken from the original scriptures. The catch here, of course, is that your Pastor is trying to convey some sort of realness or credibility of the contents which of course we now know to be far from the truth.
Q: Is the Bible really the word of God?
A: This is a similar scenario to the last question in that it comes down to interpretation and what the speaker is trying to convey. Taken at face value, God actually took out a pen and wrote the Bible or as some Biblical sages suggest, God "related" the words to a third party, e.g. Moses.
Nowadays, it has become more fashionable (in order to avoid litigation) to state that the Bible is inspired by what God would say.
