Don't get me wrong (as if), she is a beautiful, talented sportsperson at the top of her game and has done her country proud for her numerous achievements at such a youthful age.
But I think she may be a string or two short of a racquet with her recent refusal to do press conferences after matches, due to "mental health concerns". She declared that her fines for boycotting the compulsory interviews could be donated to mental health charities.
Her stunt backfired badly when the WTA said, "No, No (short for Naomi). "Isn't going to happen". The fines
(and they are quite considerable) go to the WTA who fork out many millions to put on the tennis tournaments. The interviews are just as an integral part of the whole show of tennis as is the match itself.
So, is it that the
"Miss perfect bronze-body" is jumping the net onto the trendy bandwagon of
"mental health issues"? As we all (should) know, the reigns of said wagon are pretty-well in the hands of Harry, Meghan and Oprah who are certainly flogging those horses at one heck of a pace.
Sure, it is great that we can stir up awareness of what is a common affliction that affects all of us in some way, directly or indirectly. And sure, we saw Naomi have a meltdown in public when she lost a match recently but, Geeziz, that's all part of the game of tennis which is itself a game of mental toughness. It must have been so traumatic for her afterwards going to a high-class eatery in her Lambo and drowning her tears in a few bottles of vintage Dom. And of course, the agony the next day of choosing between Hermes and Gucci in a wild shopping spree must have been overwhelming. Oh, and she must have suffered so much stress at so many photographers and makeup artists fussing over her at the bikini shoot.
