As we all (should) know, when we say "placebo" nowadays we are talking about more than just a pill that doctors give to unassuming hypochondriacs.
My favorite placebo is coffee and I have got my mind into thinking that I am going to be extra supercharged and my day will go better after a good strong flat white for breakfast.
There are many forms of placebos around. Just look at the rows upon rows of herbal pills on pharmacy shelves. Do they actually do anything? I doubt it. Then of course, you have the countless natural therapies from homeopathy through to chiropractic and hypnotherapy which actually do nothing but those who fall for them swear by their perceived "benefits".
And, this one is only hearsay and probably isn't true, but someone told me that there are people who actually believe in a placebo in the form of an invisible person who will help them and all they need to do is close their eyes and clasp their hands together in order to be cured.
