Republican Rep. Paul Gosar posted a photoshopped anime video to his Twitter and Instagram accounts showing him appearing to kill Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attacking President Joe Biden. He later said about it "It's a cartoon. Relax."
The argument:
1. Many people look to their leaders for inspiration. Some people aren't all that mentally stable and own guns. To say that some people who are unstable, have guns might USE these guns, is an understatement in the current USA political climate.
2. To say that the medium of such incitement matters instead of the message is completely fallacious. It's a cartoon, so everything is permitted? I say no. I say that free expression stops at incitement to violence against PEOPLE. This is a cartoon about the PEOPLE, not the ideas. The cartoon character is killing PEOPLE, not a political policy.
3 Therefore, Gosar's leadership entails portraying murder of his political opponents and tries to pass that off as a joke. This is typical of people who are experts at abusive tactics to get their way instead of debating the actual ideas. Of course a cartoon can be effective, and that's why Gosar USED one to promote political murder as if it was a joke. An abuser might not want to face the consequence of his actions and desire that everyone just relax.
