Oh,
and what this guy recently said is that he is satisfied with the way
drug companies, at least within the UK are doing things; it appears they
are finally cleaning up their act. "
Even the author and academic Ben Goldacre, whose book Bad Pharma shone
a light on disreputable behavior in the industry, is impressed by its
response to the pandemic so far. “Right now, everyone is hugely
motivated to pull in the same direction – and fast. It’s amazing to see.
More broadly, our research from the DataLab at Oxford has produced
strong evidence that pharma is cleaning up its act much faster than
academia, at least in some key areas, in recent years.”
For instance, a recent analysis
suggested drug companies were now far better than academics at
complying with a requirement to share the results of all clinical trials
within 12 months of completion. “More than anything, it shows once
again that problems in science are about bad systems and incentives
rather than bad people or bad organizations,” Goldacre said." https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/dec/04/covid-vaccines-offer-chance-for-big-pharma-to-improve-its-image.
Moreover, it's time to get to some of the covid and covid vaccination myths that continue to plague us:
The
above involves access to more in-depth literature surrounding some of
these myths, of which some do contain a grain of truth but a small grain
that is buried deep underneath all that mud of misinformation on the
surface!
For more generally basic (not nescessareliy basic in academic terms though) stuff just see this:
- Political Nonsense "This is not to be trusted because it's pushed by liberals"
Myth 1: The vaccine will give me COVID-19
Myth 2: We can’t trust COVID-19 vaccines because they were rushed
Myth 3: We don’t know what’s in these vaccines
Myth 4: These vaccines will alter my DNA
Myth 5: I already had COVID-19, so I won’t benefit from the vaccine
Myth 6: Since COVID-19’s survival rate is so high, I don’t need a vaccine
Myth 7: The vaccine will cause infertility
- More political nonsense "You
can't trust those science sites as they are all politically motivated" -
there will no doubt be someone saying something along the lines about
how we can't trust this legitimate science as there so often is here
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1748013219301483
However,
I highly recommend you read the previous myths as they give a more
in-depth picture of the common myths that continue to infect us. It will
make you a better bullsh!t detector. And on that note, I am brought to
another point. And that is there are people out there that pose as
credible authorities spreading disinformation. There are groups of
trolls such as the Russian Troll Factory for instance, that literally
get paid to engage in this behavior! Other motivations include
ideological reasons, and potentially just for pleasure purposes. Some of
these guys are very clever, and well-read but make no mistake; what
they are feeding you is pretty much bullshi!t! I guess the trick is not
to believe automatically everything you come across at face value. And
fortunately, in these modern times, we have a whole legitimate council
of experts of which we can defer to when are not sure about something
that someone is saying.

With all this being said, I think it's unlikely that any of this stuff is going to die, at least any time soon when taking into consideration the number of people that are imprisoned by their cognitive biases such as the Dunning Kruger effect, Borrowed library effect, cognitive dissonance, ideological bounds, those acting in bad faith due to financial gain or tied up by some other motivation, and so forth. Nontheless, the public dispelling of misinformation serves a good purpose in the sense that there will likely be people with minds less narrow than those of others.
Thank you very much.
