What Are The Lessons Of The Vietnam War?

Debate Information

The Vietnam War was a prolonged conflict that lasted from 1955 to 1975, involving the communist government of North Vietnam and the capitalist government of South Vietnam, with the United States and other allies supporting the South. The war ended with the victory of North Vietnam and the reunification of the country under communist rule. Here are some of the lessons that can be learned from the Vietnam War:

1. The importance of understanding the local culture and politics: The United States failed to understand the historical, cultural, and political context of Vietnam, which led to a lack of understanding of the local population and their needs. The US involvement in Vietnam was viewed as an intrusion and many Vietnamese saw it as a form of colonialism.

2. The limitations of military power: The Vietnam War demonstrated the limitations of military power in achieving political goals. The US had superior military technology and firepower, but the Viet Cong guerrillas and North Vietnamese army were able to adapt and use unconventional tactics to defeat the US.

3. The importance of public opinion: The Vietnam War was one of the first wars to be extensively covered by the media, and this coverage had a significant impact on public opinion. The anti-war movement in the US and other countries was fueled by images of the brutality and destruction of the war.

4. The importance of diplomacy: Diplomacy and negotiations could have been used to resolve the conflict, but both sides were unwilling to compromise. The US failed to engage in meaningful negotiations until it was too late.

5. The human cost of war: The Vietnam War had a significant human cost, with millions of Vietnamese and tens of thousands of US soldiers losing their lives. The war also had long-term effects on the health and well-being of those exposed to Agent Orange, a toxic herbicide used by the US military to destroy crops and forests.

Overall, the Vietnam War demonstrated the importance of understanding local culture and politics, the limitations of military power, the importance of public opinion, the need for diplomacy, and the human cost of war.

I'll disclose my age when everyone else does.

Just trying to get a sense where in a perspective of life your view of the “War” comes from. If you are not comfortable saying it is understood and okay. First you should note that Vietnam was a "War" and it is/was The United States Congress which had an issue with "whole truth" as the nation of Korea was at Civil War. This is an issue brought about by indecisive instruction by states of the union of executive officers of that area.

Argument Topic: What Are The Lessons Of The Vietnam War?

    Hello Jules:

First, last, and always, the government lies.  Consequently, I don't think we learned ANYTHING.  We seem to have a Vietnam type of war every decade or so..  There's been wars in Panama, Grenada, Nicaragua, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Balkans, the Global War on Terror, the Drug war, and probably 8 or 10 proxy wars, like Myanmar and Somalia, and countless others I've forgotten..

    Nahh..  We ain't learned nothing.

    Drug War,

Is by fact a World War not Civil War... It may for all intent be the First World War making it WW I the displacing all other war's in the current listing categories. That is as a United Sates Constitutional Right interesting enough there has been no real work done by and so-called elected potential President of the United States of America on this matter. Again, this is a discrepancy made by choice of priority set by states of the union of the men elected to office.

The conflict in Vietnam is often referred to as the Vietnam War. While the United States officially referred to it as a "police action" or a "conflict," it was essentially a war that lasted from 1955 to 1975. The term "police action" was used to downplay the significance of the conflict and to avoid calling it an official war. However, the conflict was fought by American and Vietnamese troops on a massive scale, with heavy casualties on both sides. In addition, it involved the use of advanced military technologies such as helicopters, fighter jets, and napalm, which are typically associated with warfare rather than police actions. Overall, while the conflict was referred to by different names, it is widely recognized as a war.

What Are The Lessons Of The Vietnam War?

The lessons are that America are hopless at winning wars even against emaciated rice farmers,  it also demonstrated  that Amercans cannot help shooting their  big fat mouths of.

But of course being American that didn't in the least stop them repeating the same mistakes time and time again

The Korean War was a Civil War period. The argument during the years that followed the start of US Military aggression and actions of the United States of America are based on findings as to why China flooded into North Korea so soon during the ending of WW II. A person making attempts at a more perfect state of the union too any kind of united states with established justice might, would call out better military intelligence on this matter, Keeping in mind an intelligent, resourceful, and investigative person might be able to direct other to locations of a better state of the union to established justice then you are making. Though truth we are to find and allocate whole truth when all is to be said and done.

Addressing Dee’s point of fact the United States Constitution 13 Amendment made American’s Military invasion of Korea highly unlikely though unannounced to China. America being the much younger and unpredictable nation then China overall. Civil War in China itself has been documented many times higher than America’s own list of civil Wars. China proving in short even a poor state of the union made as a United States Constitutional right is often far better than the best written laws.

If a person is to have faith a whole truth does exists? Working to find it…

A lesson might in “whole truth” be fighting a battle or two costing life, while other are at War is no longer based on slavery life for life, or land as payment for loss of life, for any War, and its end benefit to established justice may not always satisfy the curiosities of the passing world.

Do you see the big picture or the little picture?

Argument Topic: It's Not Called "The Vietnam Police Action Memorial"

The Vietnam War Memorial is a national monument located in Washington D.C., USA, that was designed to honor the soldiers who fought and died during the Vietnam War. The memorial was built in 1982 and has since become one of the most visited memorials in the United States.

The memorial was built as a way to honor the 58,318 soldiers who lost their lives in the war. The design of the memorial is simple yet powerful, consisting of two black granite walls that are inscribed with the names of every American soldier who died or went missing in the war.

The memorial was designed by Maya Lin, a young architecture student who won a national design competition for the project. Lin's design was controversial at the time, as many people felt that it was too minimalist and lacked traditional patriotic symbols. However, over time, the memorial has become widely regarded as a masterpiece of minimalist design and a powerful tribute to the soldiers who fought and died in the war.

The memorial is located in a park near the National Mall, and visitors can walk along the two walls, which are sunk into the ground to create a feeling of being surrounded by the names of the fallen soldiers. The names on the wall are listed in chronological order of the soldier's death or disappearance, rather than alphabetically or by rank.

The Vietnam War Memorial has become a powerful symbol of the sacrifices made by American soldiers in the war, and it is visited by millions of people each year. The memorial is especially poignant for veterans and their families, who often leave flowers, letters, and other mementos at the site to honor their loved ones who died in the war. The memorial also serves as a reminder of the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by those who fought for their country, and the need to work towards peace and understanding in the world.

In an attempt of perfection, not race for first, the connections to hold towards established justice despite resistance by the many who claim such commitments to change are wrong. All Military action in Korea had been a Civil War ironically set between the same boundaries as the American Civil War, a civil war between the North and South of Korea. As France and Spain so came to our Aid so did the United States advance towards the aid of others..

What Are The Lessons Of The Vietnam War?

That the U.S. and China did not take land as a compensation for their part in a nations Civil War that had become international...note the wording.....
