Argument Topic: Democrats tried to Defund the Police

From Democrats' push to defund police caused crime to spike:

In 2020, Democrats fully embraced the radical “defund the police” movement. I and many of my Republican colleagues warned against the enactment of these extreme policies. As predicted, the results have been disastrous. Crime has spiked, officers have left their jobs, and criminals now have greater control over the streets.

“Defund the police” was more than just a catchphrase for the radical left. Democratic cities across the country reduced funding for their police forces over the past two years. Minneapolis, which saw some of the year’s most violent riots, cut its police budget by $8 million. Los Angeles slashed police funding by $150 million, and New York City shrank the NYPD’s budget by $1 billion. As a result, 14 major Democrat-run cities saw their highest homicide levels on record in 2021. The upward trend has not stopped. Fox News recently analyzed data from seven major cities and found that this year, violent crimes have increased up to 40% over 2021. The increase has been particularly pronounced in New York City and Seattle, two cities that were on the leading edge of the “defund the police” movement. Though, it’s not just homicide rates that are up. Carjackings have become commonplace in many cities, and major increases in organized retail theft have left business owners struggling, frustrated, and feeling abandoned by local leaders.

Crime rates went up 30 percent in Democrat run cities a year after the call to defund police in 2020.  Democrats are now trying to scrub all the references they made to cut police budgets and some are even pretending they never called for defunding and cutting police budgets.

What do you have in mind to replace the police with?

It is a political misdirection from a poor Congressional, Presidnetial, Exsecutive officer state of the union.

Getting rid of the police is like getting rid of referees for pro football games.  It seems like a good idea at first to get rid of that referee that must be 'legally blind' until you wish a referee was there to call all the fouls the other team has committed against your team.  Crime rates are 60% higher in blue counties than red ones (see

Report shows blue counties have higher murder rate than red, calls out 'flawed' studies promoted by top Dems)

The reason for this is pretty easy to understand.  Crime is a local issue.  How it is policed and prosecuted depends on the local government.  When you have counties committed to 'defunding the police' you see higher crime rates.  Pro-crime Democrats have not done their constituents any favors.  Instead, people are less protected and more vulnerable to crime.

    Hello the:

We should NOT abolish policing.  The incarnation known as the "police force", however, needs to be reformed. Oh, it shouldn't be a major reformation, though...  The Constitution already sets out the rules..  All the cops have to do, is OBEY them.  Yeah, it's gonna take some re-education.

Ok, I didn't want to go through the entire situation, but here's the bottom line.  Freedom is the default..  It just IS.  The Bill of Rights clearly spell it out. Truly, that's what makes this democracy different than any other..  The citizens are in charge - NOT the cops.

Unfortunately, however, the cops think THEY'RE in charge, and think WE, the citizens, need to obey them..

It's really no more difficult than that..

Don't believe me??  The next time you're pulled over, and the cop asks for your ID, try telling him that the 4th Amendment to the Constitution says you're not REQUIRED to identify yourself..  You'll probably be yanked outta your car, thrown to the ground, and summarily arrested.
