Are Americans making a mockery of our First Amendment rights?

Debate Information

I left Twitter (X) after Musk´s takeover due to an increase in angry, inciting speech, untruths, propaganda, lies and bullying. With this awesome free right we´ve been given to freely express ourselves, at what point should responsibility to uphold this right be initiated?  Is the First Amendment being increasingly abused and pushed to its boundaries? Are we making a mockery of this enormous right we´ve been granted?

To Mr openminded.   If you think that Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter is bad because it allowed for the transmission of values and attitudes of which you disapprove of, then what the hell are you doing on Debate Island?      Debate Island believes in free speech just as much as Elon Musk, and you are going to get confronted by opinions on this site which are very contrary to your own.     An intelligent person would see this (and Twitter)  as an opportunity to test your values and attitudes against people who hold opposite views from you, people you would not normally associate with in your liberal bubble life.     Along the way, you might discover that your conviction that your side of politics has all the brains and all the answers "ain't necessarily so."

    Hello O:

The First Amendment protects you from government censorship..   Private entities, like Twitter and FOX News, are not so constrained.  With few exceptions, like libel, they're free, to be as unfree as they wish.

Free speech is also a culture as well as a 1st amendment right. Yes, there are hard limits on free speech you can't falsely yell fire nor threaten someone with violence.

There is one 1st Amendment right there are not multiple United States Constitutional Rights in the 1st Amendment. Unlike when a lawyer breaks the 1st Amendment in court of law by citing the freedom of speech in a court of law it does not mean outside the court the broken state of the union will still work as right of the people as a united state. Lawyers are licensed by the states to practice criminal law in a court of law and in the population at large. The grievance is when in the population at large a lawyer can be described as a man who is created equal by his creator, President. As a lawyer who is female can be described as a persuader and held equal to all women who are created equal by their creator, Presadera.

The 1st Amendment does not have a free speech right.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. ( this is all one right) when broken apart it many no longer be right.

Free is the truth used to describe the estabishment of principle of religion which has no cost as a right, a whole truth. The principle of religions that has no cost as a united state is listning. The church pays no donation to all the people to listen to them. A church can be prove to donate to some people over others who listent to them. You are breaking a united state of truth made in the 1st Amendment when you describe free and freedom as having the same definition.

or prohibiting the free exercise thereof  = stopping the no cost of practicing listning
freedom of speech =  The whole truth is more then one set of words can be spoken to hold the same definition.
or of the press = The whole truth is more than one set of words can be written to hold the same definition.

It is the 1st Amendment which can allow by united states Consitutional right a women and person of enthic color including such as back be allowed to vote while citicen of the United States of America. Even though they can be described as having pending conflicts of interest within the contex of Articles, Sections, and Amendments to the American Consitution as lack of united state with established justice.

There are more than those two.    Identifying the names and addresses of jurors and witnesses is also not protected.     Government official secrets are not protected under the US First Amendment.     Slander is not protected speech.     Identifying minors who are either charged and convicted of crimes is not protected.

But what we are really talking about here is free political speech.     That is the ABSOLUTE right of people living within a free, democratic society to openly discuss any social issue and decide among themselves just which course of action is the correct one.     This is so that electors can decide for themselves which political party most conforms to what the majority of electors have decided is the way forward for their nation.   Within my lifetime it was once the Right which were the political censors and the Left who were the free speech advocates.     But the times, they are, a changin' and now the the Left is now the Establishment, it ie the Left which is the greatest threat to democracy., because free speech is the foundation stone of democracy.   No free speech and a country has just taken a giant leap to totalitarianism.

To those who claim that the right's views are "hate speech", how would you like it is after Donald Trump is re elected President of the USA, he began to call all left wing views "hate speech" and moved to have all left wing views banned?      If you have two functioning neurons to rub together and synapse, then you should be able to figure out that free speech works both ways for everybody.
