Plato argued that the value of something arises from the thing itself. A human life has the value of a human life, even if it is not capable of doing things that other humans can do. Its value is not in what it can contribute, it is in its being. So a human has the value of a human, a dog the value of a dog, a flower the value of a flower, etc.

Argument Topic: Honesty, critical thinking, and kindness are the three most important virtues in my opinion.

I. Honesty

The damage that grifters cause never ceases to amaze me. Exploiting cancer patient's for profit with fake cures like industrial bleach. To challenge people with the same political party or other tribe. For example I a am very pro-vaccine, but some people take it too far. For example the myth of the covid-19 forever plague. This is baseless fear mongering.

II. Critical thinking

Without critical thinking how can a person know what is true and false? In the age of the Internet and therefore misinformation we need lots of critical thinking. Maybe critical thinking was not so important in the iron age, but now it is. Being skilled in critical thinking inoculates against being a gullible patsy despite good intentions.

III. Kindness

In this harsh world we need kind people. To understand that people who believe in conspiracy theories are often harmed the most by them. While tempting to unload on someone who has an unpopular point of view like the Earth is flat, this only makes the world a meaner place. Show compassion, empathy, and kindness.
