That is a difficult question, as I support helping those at disadvantage because of their race. That said, we now leave in a global complex economy, and affirmative action should be updated to reflect the realities of 21st century.
I dont agree with inc4t on this point. Affirmative action gives a chance to those who never would have chance otherwise to get out of generations of life in projects. We should continue to support it.

I am not supportive of policy that protects one race, while hard working asians with all a grades cannot get to top schools because their race is not considered preferred on college applications
60% support it based on the poll so far. I continue to support it, although I think some updates should be considered to reflect the reality of our times

@ale5 I'm in support of your viewpoint here. I'm afraid any organization that is the cause of what you're talking about is not a just organization. After SAT examinations, U.S. Citizens of Asian ethnicity, who scored nearly perfect on their SAT exam, were denied entrance into colleges that other ethnic and racial groups were given access to...who also scored lower on their SAT exam. ANY organization responsible for this socialist approach CANNOT be good for our country. The ones who work harder and score higher are punished, meanwhile those who work less and score lower are awarded...sounds pretty wrong to me no matter what the circumstances.

I disagree with Affirmative action and for a couple of reasons... 1)it needs to be restructured based on the 21st century as @inc4t had said. 2) it may not be very helpful for all races etc.
I support affirmative action. It may need to be tweaked though. My concern about stopping support for affirmative action is that poor areas will struggle to break the vicious circle of poverty and lack of education opportunities. that said, i can see how unfair it is to Asian kids and others with perfect SAT score. In general I support meritocracy, but I think this case maybe an okay exception.
Affirmative action is fundamentally unfair. I understand there are communities of disadvantaged people who deserve just as many opportunities as advantaged people, but the policy of affirmative action assumes many incorrect things. 1) People of different ethnicities are automatically disadvantaged or financially unstable - a somewhat racist generalization. 2) Those who are not minorities are automatically advantaged - another somewhat racist generalization. The only way to establish EQUAL opportunity for everyone is to create a level playing field, and that equality ceases to exist when one race or ethnicity is given priority over the other. Schools shouldn't even consider things like race - only academic abilities and the educational/financial environment in which the student lived.
I highly disapprove of affirmative actions. I understand that some are benefiting from this, but not than much. I'm not sure if there is that much of a point.
I'm sure that Affirmative Action has made some sort of positive contribution to our Society...I just don't know what it is because their overwhelmingly defining attribute seems to be that of making minorities out to be victims. I just don't see any organization that teaches ANYONE that they're automatically a victim if they fall into a specific race or ethnic category, as a good thing.
